Painful Ride
4 stars
Really enjoyed this book. I had a hard time remembering who's who in the family tree as the book went on but the core idea of the book remained strong. Slavery and its history has been done countless times but this one feels quite personal (and is). Starting from the Gold Coast and stretching to Harlem, I really "enjoyed" the painful ride.

Absurd, comic and tragic
5 stars
Content warning Tone spoiler
Great book on the absolute absurdity of war and how it is normalized before, during (and especially during) and after the war. The absurdity is told with extreme comedy but what's happening to these men (and women) is heart breakingly tragic. Kept laughing all throughout but couldn't help feel very sad at the same time.
