A dark and revealing work of fiction about the last days of South Vietnam

This work of historical fiction paints a dark and I would argue realistic portrait of what it was like to be a Vietnamese in South Vietnam on the eve of Saigon’s fall. Nguyen is also sensitive to what it was like for Vietnamese refugees in the United States, their longing for home, and the rejection and “re-education” many endured because of their western loyalties (whether real or suspected) under a communist regime. A must read for anyone the least bit interested in the American War in Vietnam, the war’s memory for its participants, and great spy/thriller fiction.
