Recently bought a copy of The Just City, started re-reading my favorite bits, and gave in to buy this one without having read it yet.

I was startled how quickly the catalyst of the story came, though I'd been spoiled on it. But after getting a few chapters in, I realized that it was necessary. I already miss that character's voice, but there is a new character with a rightfully similar voice, and it would have been deeply confusing. Plus, it's interesting to get to know the new characters (and revisit known characters as adult) and their feelings about that lost character solely through their own voices.
