Review of 'Feminist City' on 'GoodReads'

2 stars

I don’t think I learned anything new reading this. The book proposes or introduces no theory, and describes very little except the lived experience of the author, certainly never lifting its eyes to the broader picture. I understand the need to situate knowledge and all that, but this feels more navel-gazing and meandering than anything else. The book hasn’t given me any new way of thinking about urban planning that a basic feminist understanding and some common sense already gave me.

Still, it was a nice read.

@amanda Your review resonates with my gut feeling after reading it. However, as a white heterosexual cis man, I have enjoyed it a lot and, while it hasn't been as revealing as I thought it would, there have been some lessons I've learnt from it. I will definitely come back to it, especially to read more about some of the references she mentions. It is because of that, and about what you were saying in your review, that I was wondering if you could recommend me other books/articles about cities and feminism that you have found interesting.
