Colson Whitehead does a phenomenal job writing a heart-wrenching tale about the abuse, prejudices, and hardships that come with being sent to a reform school in the height of the Civil Rights Act. This novel is a fast yet thought-provoking read that I’d recommend to anyone interested in contemporary literature or Black American literature and culture.
