I first read this book when I was a teenager, years before the original Blade Runner film, and following 2049 thought it was time to take a look again. It is not only the plot that is different from the film, but the characters (of the characters) are too; as usual with books much more rounded and ambiguous than the action figures in films. And some bizarre elements in the plot, I'm not surprised that they left this out of the film. All in all, well worth reading, or reading again.
