I remember the first time I read this book. I had just turned 20, failed one of my classes and was moving out of my first own flat. My parents were to pick me up in the morning, I still had lots of cleaning to do but stayed up until around 4 a.m. reading.
And I also remember my second read. I was 21 and about to start my job at the tax office.
Basically, I read Fangirl whenever something huge happened in my life. The story made me feel like I could face my future. Like everything would turn out perfectly alright.
Now I'm 26 (gosh, where have all the years gone?) and am kind of settled. I completed my degree two years ago and have been working full time ever since. I guess you could call me an adult now. And sometimes I even forget what it was like, being young and in college.
Rereading Fangirl felt like reconnecting with the person I was in my late teens and early twenties. Sadly, the book didn't quite blow my mind like it used to but I guess that's because my freshman days are long over.. That being said, my sister will graduate high school next year and I'll make sure to give her a copy of my favourite Rainbow Rowell book as a present then hoping it will make her feel a little less afraid of new beginnings.
