Felt unfinished

I really liked the beginning of the story but lost interest around 60 percent of the book. It felt like the author ditched the romance for a mystery that was mediocre at best. Maxwell stated that she posted the story on AO3 originally but reworked parts of it. Writing the first draft on AO3 took years apparently. I guess that's the reason why the novel didn't seem consistent to me.
