Lived up to the hype. First book in a while I've felt that I needed to digest.

@Duckus @GreatDismal@mastodon.social The technology speculation really appealed to me, even though I know it's very dated in some ways. I grew up in the 70's and 80's, so retro futurism still makes me feel at home in a book. I love it. I liked how manic the pacing felt - not that it felt rushed at all - it was MANIC, which fits with Case's addiction. I agree that Armitage was well done. Wintermute was my favorite character, though. It was annoying and inscrutable, as I'd expect an AI to be. Actually, part of my enjoyment of the books was that I appreciated all of the characters. None of them seemed extraneous and all had a part.
