@arcanaemia It is such a good book, even though it’s starting to date. Armitage is such a well-written character, and his story is my favourite part of the book.
It’s wild that legend has it Gibson @GreatDismal@mastodon.social wrote it and sent it in and there were no edits, it just got published. It was his first novel! And the cultural impact is phenomenal. What we’re your favourite parts?
@Duckus @GreatDismal@mastodon.social The technology speculation really appealed to me, even though I know it's very dated in some ways. I grew up in the 70's and 80's, so retro futurism still makes me feel at home in a book. I love it. I liked how manic the pacing felt - not that it felt rushed at all - it was MANIC, which fits with Case's addiction. I agree that Armitage was well done. Wintermute was my favorite character, though. It was annoying and inscrutable, as I'd expect an AI to be. Actually, part of my enjoyment of the books was that I appreciated all of the characters. None of them seemed extraneous and all had a part.
