Review of 'Cripple Creek' on 'LibraryThing'

An apt title, with the number of people the narrator cripples in the course of the book. A traffic stop in a small delta town turns ugly when the police find a whole lot of cash in the trunk of the car; soon the mobsters whose money it is take it back by force (along with the guy who took the money). Turner, who is now working as a sheriff's deputy, returns to his old stomping ground, Memphis to ... well, do some stomping. Beautiful writing as always from Sallis, but I liked this one less than its predecessor, Cyprus Grove.
