Review of 'When the Sacred Ginmill Closes (Matt Scudder Mystery)' on 'LibraryThing'
5 stars
Took me long enough to get around to this 1986 entry in the Scudder series. Told in Block's typically laconic style, Scudder has a lot going on - a holdup at an Irish speakeasy, a pair of friends dealing with a blackmail threat, and a tiresome client who wants to prove he didn't pay to have his wife murdered. Everything twists and turns acrobatically at the end, not so much ends being tied up as unraveled.
