Basically, this is [book:Dresden Files] with a female protagonist, but where I found Harry Dresden too patronizing to read about, Joanne failed to irritate me.

The book did baffle me, slightly, with over-enthusiastic nested flashbacks, resulting in my not understanding the order in which events occurred until two-thirds through the book, but since it wasn't too crucial anyway, I didn't mind that too much.

This isn't a great book. The villains are slightly cackling, and the romance is somewhat heavy-handed, but it fills a niche, for me. I'll probably take the sequels out from the library, if I happen across them.
