Review of "Can't Hurt Me" on 'Goodreads'
3 stars
David Goggins has overcome incredible odds, and done some amazing things. Unfortunately his book just isn't terribly readable, and I stopped (according to my Kindle) 65% of the way through.
First issue, it's repetitive. His personal story is very compelling, and if he had stuck mostly to that, I would have flown through the book. However, interspersed in the chapters, are his "How I became so tough" talk. While I understand that this is the point of the book, it is introduced the same way every time, and the advice is basically "be tough."
Second, Goggins is misogynistic in his language, and I just got fed up. Weak people are "pussies" and, upon encountering the phrase that he needed to "hem his vagina" I called it quits. I won't say he's a misogynist, since I don't know the man. But going by this book, I know where I'd put my money.
Lots of people love the book, so it may be for you. For my money, there are much better written ones out there.
