Peter Watts: Starfish (Rifters Trilogy) (Paperback, 2000, Tor Science Fiction)

Civilization rests on the backs of its outcasts.

So when civilization needs someone to …

None

At the beginning of this book, I wasn't sure I was going to like it because the principal characters were not likable, but as I got into the story, I realized that that was the point.

I liked that the story had what felt like a natural progression to it without resorting to ex deus machina to resolve the story.

The ending was enough of a cliffhanger obviously leading into the next book of the series.

Overall, once I got about 30% into the story, I found myself interested to see where it was going and once reaching the end, I realized I did enjoy the ride.
