brenticus reviewed The Phoenix Project by Gene Kim

I somehow avoided reading this for years, and the mixed reviews I seemed to stumble across continually deprioritized it from my interest. But I'm trying to wrangle dev and ops teams into a devops paradigm at work, so... felt like the time.
It may just be that it's overly relatable, but I think this is a great read. Over the top in many respects, over simplified in many others, and I'm not sure they ever really solved the problem of Brent being vital for every major project, but it lays out the problems in a way that makes me cringe at the realism then explains systems of doing business that help solve all those problems. It's a quick, easy read that I want to throw at my bosses.
I was expecting something a bit more technical—it's in the comp sci genre here, after all—but instead I got an interesting examination of how devops solves business problems and how there isn't really a difference between IT and business problems.
