brenticus reviewed Hell Bent by Leigh Bardugo (Alex Stern, #2)

I felt like Ninth House was a bit reserved. Only the barest glimpses of magic could be felt until the crazy finale.
Hell Bent didn't have these reservations. It didn't shy from magical rituals with terrible consequences and dubious outcomes. It didn't shy from magical artifacts hidden from sight that are as dangerous as they are mysterious. And it didn't shy from otherworldly creatures wreaking havoc on the world.
There were a few points I feel meh about. The subplot with Eitan was a bit frustrating, even if it had a fun conclusion. The pacing felt really slow at the start but blew through the climax like a bull through a sheet of paper. The flash forward at the beginning felt unnecessary.
But those are fairly minor things. Altogether I think this was a lot of fun to read and I'm curious to see what the fallout turns out to be.
