Frank G. Slaughter: Countdown (1970, Hutchinson) No rating

Picked up a harcover copy at an estate sale over the weekend. Space plus Florida in a time capsule ca. 1970. Page 35 refers to "the new university near Orlando," where I matriculated 11 years later after it became known as UCF.

Raymond Khoury: The Last Templar (Templar, #1) (2006, Signet)

The Last Templar is a 2005 novel by Raymond Khoury, and is also his debut …

Not very far in after a couple of days, but nice to start something where I don't already know some of the characters from a TV show.

Matthew Quirk: The Night Agent (Hardcover, 2019, William Morrow)

Sought out the book after watching the TV series. It took 100 or so pages to grab me, but I raced through it from there. No, it doesn't exactly sync up with the show, but it's a very good read.

Mick Herron: The Secret Hours (2023, Murray Press, John)

Two years ago, the Monochrome inquiry was set up to investigate the British secret service. …

A good backstory to several of the Slow Horses characters. You might get the most enjoyment of this if you've read up to Spook Street [bookwyrm.social/book/201447/s/spook-street] first, but it does stand alone. I've noted before that Berlin is important to the Jackson Lamb backstory and that "Atomic Blonde" is a good companion for that reason. Herron fleshes that out a lot more in this.
