tl;dr: people used to be really weird about sex.

Probably a good adaptation of the original Strindberg, but (and maybe I'm naive for this) the closer the overheated and basically insane emotional frenzy is brought to modern (comparatively sane?) times, the more bizarre it seems to me. I mean, really?
