I wanted to like this, but at over 100 pages in, I have to admit that it’s not clicking with me. The premise is intriguing, but most of this first quarter of the story has been a near endless parade of new characters, and I can’t get invested in any of them when the perspective keeps changing. The introductions to the pirates in particular threw me off, since it felt like it came from a completely different book. It’s possible that everything comes together in the end, but I don’t have enough investment in any of these storylines at this point to want to see it through.
