The people who call this a glorification of fascism are incredibly one-dimensional. Heinlein does a great job of describing an alternative society in which the privileges of living within a government are tied to the duties and responsibilities of protecting it.

For those who have seen the ridiculous late-20th Century movie of the same name, this book is nothing like it. Take a leap and read this excellent story.
