reviewed Lunar Trilogy by Jerzy Zulawski (Trylogia Księżycowa, #1-3)

Jerzy Zulawski: Lunar Trilogy (Paperback, 2020, Zmok Books)

Trylogia Ksiezycowa (The Lunar Trilogy or The Moon Trilogy is a trilogy of science fiction …

Epic

Amazing story. Up there with Lem & the Strugatskies. Very loosely, sort of a Lord of The Flies, on another planet. Feels much more modern than the 1900's.

James Hutton: Theory of the Earth (1788) (Paperback, 2007, NuVision Publications)

Historically interesting

Fascinating to read a scientist who was too far ahead of his time to make the arguments he was obviously reaching towards. He was on the right path to the idea of an ancient, dynamic earth, but the scientific context just wasn't there yet for him to put together a solid argument.

Stefan Wul: Piège sur Zarkass (French language, 1977)

More weirdness from Wul.

One of those times a crazy-looking sci-fi paperback cover is actually true to the story. The main characters float past a bunch of huge ruined statues sticking out of the water, left behind by an long-gone advanced civilization. (Ahhhh... but are they REALLY gone?)

There's a long sequence of trudging through alien jungles, with great descriptions of weird alien lifeforms. Black trees covered in glowing molluscs...

Good stuff.

From the author that gave us the movie Fantastic Planet (novel: Oms en serie).
