Like the rest of the trilogy, it's poorly written. If he cut out even half of the utterly pointless asides and musings, the book would be 200 pages shorter, which for this story, it should be.
It's also a rather dick move to decide to introduce paranormal elements in the third book of a series.
At least I've got these three mediocre books out of the way so I can read The Outsider.
