It may be a classic, but certainly not a timeless one. I read it for the dialogue as that's what it's particularly known for, and (as with all older books) I try to read with a contemporaneous eye. I appreciate what Higgins was doing and what everyone is so mystified with, but in many places the dialogue slowed the story down, and not in a good way.
