dwhatson reviewed Notes from a coma by Mike McCormack
An Interesting Premise
3 stars
I must begin this review by stating that I'm rather fond of Mike McCormack's books. He always has genuinely interesting ideas. 'Notes From A Coma' is no different. The concept is interesting and his method of telling the story, interviews with those who are associated with the central character, serves the novel well. It is the mass of footnotes that, for me, constantly interrupts the flow and rhythm of the story. I realize the information in the footnotes is important (or not), but could McCormack have integrated this material differently into the story? Perhaps these are the real notes from a coma? Perhaps I just didn't get it? That being said, I enjoyed this book and 'Solar Bones' awaits in my bookshelves to be read.
