A very interesting book that suffers a little from not being quite sure which thing it's going to be:
There's a memoir here about a specific trip
There's some first-hand journalism about the places visited
* There's a meditation about what journalism is
The thing is that it's actually quite good at all three things, but they do trip over each other a bit.
