At this point Jim Butcher has a very clearly defined formula for the Harry Dresden books. I don't say that in a negative way. He knows what his readers are looking for and he provides it.

Which means plenty of action, moral dilemmas and Dresden getting beaten up a lot.

It's all good stuff, but if you haven't read the previous books, this really isn't the place to start.
