Ian Mcdonald: Hopeland (2023, Doherty Associates, LLC, Tom, Tor Books) 4 stars

I'll remember this book for a long time to come

5 stars

Ian McDonald has crafted a story that weaves across generations, families (chosen and born) and storylines in a way that feels both real and magical at the same time. It's a love letter to growing up, growing older, and changing.

I have a sense that this book was so close to what it could have been, but falters in the final chapters - that said, the real beauty is in the little moments and the world that he builds. The chase through the city, the coils, the music.

This is a legend in book form.

Review of 'Summary of the 5 Am Club by Robin Sharma' on 'Goodreads'

1 star

This book is so uniquely terrible that I'm here writing a review for it years later.

There must be something going on here - some cult or paid review scam pushing this anywhere over 1.5 stars average. This book is absolute tripe, and that's compared to the average writing in the self-help genre.

The dialog is completely unnatural, the characters make b-movie action writing seem like Tolstoy by comparison, and the "self-help" amounts to "You suck. You'll magically become the a different person if you get up stupid early" with some heavy doses of judgmental BS sprinkled throughout.
