I was looking forward to this because I enjoyed The Sword of Kaigen so much. But this story felt far more predictable and simplistic in comparison, so I stopped at 20%. The Sword of Kaigen also has a young person realizing their worldview is flawed, but it read as more nuanced and real than what I was getting in this book. The simplicity of the world and character behavior here felt YA/NA, in contrast to the complexity of The Sword of Kaigen.

Now, I still think this book has an audience that will greatly enjoy it. It's just not me!
