4.5 stars. I almost DNFed this thing in the second part because there’s a POV shift, and took me a bit to care about the narrator! But I ended up really liking this one. I think it would reward a reread tbh.

It’s a desert post apocalyptic setting with plant/animal related horror elements. Some Mad Max vibes.

Magdala as a character is engaging to follow. Her arc is believable and moving. I like how she’s hardened some but never fully.

I also enjoyed the weird Catholicism/saints/relics stuff going on. And the unexplained miraculous “powers” people have sometimes.

I was satisfied by how it all came together in the end! Really enjoyed the journey.
