Erin reviewed Ruthie Fear by Maxim Loskutoff
Review of 'Ruthie Fear' on 'Goodreads'
Actually a DNF, but I made it just barely past 50%, so I'll count it as read here.
I enjoyed the start of this book and the magical realism or fantastical element of Ruthie seeing a headless creature and such. The reason this book made it to my TBR at all was because I found it on a list of "weird" books. But after the initial sighting of the creature, the book becomes a pretty standard coming of age story. I'm not interested in that kind of story. I was going to push through anyway to see how the story would return to the creature, but then I came upon a rapey scene. I opted out right there.
Other reviews indicate that the story gets real weird at the end, so I may have enjoyed that part. But I wasn't interested in what I would have to read to get there.
