Anne Bishop continues her story of Saetan, Daemon, Lucivar, and Jaenelle in this second novel of her Black Jewels Trilogy. The story picks up right where the first novel left off. If you've already read Daughter of the Blood, then you'll already be hooked into this trilogy. I could hardly put this book down! The story is complex and compelling. Anne Bishop does a wonderful job of taking care of a problem or wrapping up an issue just as the reader is getting annoyed at the characters. Truly an intriguing novel.

In this part of the trilogy, we see Jaenelle's recovery from book 1, and her rise into power while Dorothea and Heketah work against her adopted family.
