I started this book while on vacation and finished it last week. This book felt like a different author to me from the first two books. The writing style seems to have changed.

Tempe also seems to be changing personality. She seemed a lot more friendly and did a lot of out of character things in this novel. I also wonder how many friends and relatives are going to be in danger and I wonder when this obviously bright woman is going to stop making such stupid decisions that put her in danger. I understand those decisions create conflict and further the plot, but still... they seem completely out of character and the justifications given seem like poorly written excuses.

The novel is fine. The plot is okay. I do enjoy the science given in these books and I like the mini-lectures you get on topics, biker gangs being the major one in this novel. It makes them different than your typical crime novels, which are not one of my usual reads. Overall, I like Kathy Reichs because she is different than my usual fare, but her writing skills seem to be moving from complex story-telling to bang-em-out story-telling.

I still plan to read the other books in this series, although if Reichs continues to morph Tempe and continues down this current path of writing, I may not finish.
