This book was alright. Steam boats are not my thing, so the theme wasn't that interesting. Plot-wise there was nothing revolutionary here, and I don't think the book also gave nothing very new about vampires either.

There were some well-written characters: I grew to like Captain Marsh, and Sour Billy Tipton is one of the vilest characters I've ever encountered in a book, but, in the end, he was also quite pitiable. The book also dealt with slavery as the events took place in the Southern US states in the 1800s. It was an interesting background setting, although all the racist language was quite tedious to read. I
