I think Musk is just #Terminally4ChanBrained . He enjoyed a particular niche of users on Twitter that most people would block and that regularly violated Twitter's terms.
In the past I thought Musk just overestimates how much people hate what he hates, and he underestimates how much people hate what he loves. But he was able to #BuyAnElection , so I am reevaluating Musk all over again.
