All down beats, no likeable characters, child torture, forced abortions, threats of rape and animal abuse all interfer with a story line that never resolves anything for the characters who had to endure it all.

Downbeats at every turn, including torture of children, animal abuse, rape and forced abortion. No satisfactory end to any of the antagonists. Only on character (Ellie) has any redeeming qualities and the author fluffs her shot at being the heroine.

In short, in every instance where the author could have gone right instead of wrong, she went wrong, leaving me a very frustrated reader.
