In a magical world set in Edwardian England, Robin Blyth finds himself assigned to an obscure civil service post by someone who didn’t realise it was the liaison office for the secret magical world. Thrown in head first, he finds his predecessor vanished and is assaulted by men looking for something his predecessor hid. With the aid of his magical counterpart, Edwin Courcey, they work to uncover a plot and navigate the upper-class social rules and ancient laws of magical England.

It’s a cute world with its jock x nerd queer romance at its centre, and it carries perhaps just the right amount of world-building to give you a grounding without magical rules getting in the way of the characters. It was a little slow starting in my view, but it picked up after about halfway through. It also saves most of its conclusions for its sequels which is irritating as you are left with very few answers with just book 1. So perhaps it is best judged as a series.
