Review of 'The Squad' on 'Goodreads'

Toby and the other cheerleader-turned-spies return in The Squad: Killer Spirit, sequel to Perfect Cover. The book essentially picks up where Perfect Cover left off. Many of the unanswered questions in the previous book are resolved while others aren’t, and still more questions are presented. (One such question is the relationship between the voice that gives the girls orders and a certain someone Toby kissed during a mission, but you’ll have to read Killer Spirit to see which category this question falls into!)
The girls are sent on a new mission, and the result is a page-turning thrill ride involving bombs, evildoers, and kissing boys. Toby knows that she can handle herself when it comes to the first two, but it’s the last one that throws her for a loop. Even more frightful is the idea that Toby might become the first sophomore voted Homecoming Queen – she’d rather dodge bullets all day!
Overall, I found Killer Spirit to be a fun and easy way to spend an afternoon. It’s a quick read, and both the dialog and the plot pull the reader in and keep her heart pounding right along with Toby’s. Killer Spirit was released on the same day as Perfect Cover, and while that seems like a good idea at first, I found that I needed to wait a while before reading the second book. It was almost as though I needed the time to let Perfect Cover marinate in my head before I could get excited about Killer Spirit. That said, however, once I started, I couldn’t put it down.
