Review of 'Iron Lake (Mysteries & Horror)' on 'Goodreads'

Really enjoyed this first book in the long running Cork O'Connor series. Set in far northern Minnesota, Cork is an ex-sheriff with some Ojibwe blood in him. As the ex-sheriff, he gets called on by a friend to find her son and soon finds himself embroiled in all kinds of ugly stuff.
While the side tracks into Ojibwe lore were interesting, they sometimes came at times when they kind of derailed the momentum of the story. And I still prefer a first person mystery, and while this one kept the point of view of Cork for nearly all of it, it made the later narrative switches a little more jarring than normal.
But it is an interesting story, told by an interesting character, so I'm definitely looking forward to the next one.
