It's frustrating in mysteries when the detective goes off on a hunch without much to back it up, but things work out anyway. It's just too far from how life really works. One of the things Winters gets right is to let his sleuth's impulses and instincts lead him astray from time to time with realistic consequences. That, along with the likeable characters and an interesting hook, make this series worthwhile. A step above most popular mysteries.
