Very uncomfortable to read a book about a mixed race hero working for the Feds, collaborating with DHS, in the current social-political climate. Feels like bad timing on the release date.

I also don't really love crime fiction -romcom hybrids and this sort of leaned in that direction. Either I can take the crime part seriously or I can get into the easy happy feelings of the romcom but I can't do both.

I did really like the female MC --super smart and hard-working and community-minded, while acknowledging that following that path as a woman of color is a huge burden. I also liked her relationships with her sister and friends. Representation matters.
