Lowell is at the top of his form in this book, showing us Wang's first experiences as an officer aboard a small-crewed freighter.

This book is darker than previous books --- Wang is definitely being challenged by a difficult crew, a difficult captain, and (without giving too much away) a frankly criminal first mate. As in the other books, it's Wang's positive attitude, careful thinking, and ethical behavior that carries the day.

Highly recommended if you like the series.
