The Great Believers, by Rebecca Makkai. Set in Chicago from 1986 and Paris in 2015, and it's about gay men and the women in their lives, AIDS, relationships. A quite bitter and judgemental ex-lawyer turned journalist is sent to a remote (fictional) land where a terrorist group has come to the world's attention. I'm at around 30% and it's not that easy to read, but it's keeping my interest up. The main character is not relatable but somehow I wish him good! @bookstodon #TheNewRepublic #LionelShriver

Interesting passages and a good female character, but far too long and with too many detailed descriptions about miniatures and the philosophy behind them... I didn't get to the end.

This is a family saga that follows a Korean family in Japan from before the WWII to the present day. The writing is simple, easy to read and interesting. Overall a good book, enlightening.

I've enjoyed it. A little slow and dry at times but the ending makes sense of everything. Do not expect a spy story.
