Kibrika reviewed A Court of Thorns and Roses Box Set by Sarah J. Maas
Review of 'A Court of Thorns and Roses Box Set' on 'Goodreads'
I knew this was going to be a light read and hating those light reads is all the fun. I hated this "Beauty and the Beast" meets "Twilight". "Oh," you say, "but the handsome immortal being who's kin are predators to humans but he totally isn't does not sparkle in this one!" He shines when he let's his glamour fall, that's close enough. Oh, and we don't have to chose if we're on team Jacob or team Edward, because our "Beast" is both!
On a personal note I hate that the name of Tam Lin was used in this vulgar book.
I call this book vulgar, because to me it felt like a book that mistook lust for love, used violence and tragedy trivially without ever making me feel the impact of it in any way and didn't make me ponder about anything in it at all.
Well I did ponder how does "feral grace" compensate for partners lack of dance step knowledge. Seriously got sick of how much of a predator our handsome hunk is, according to every growl and explicit mention of his being a predator.
The things I appreciate most in this book is that the protagonist had a strong obsession with colours (it felt a bit too heavy handed to say she was a painter) and I did like how it all tied back to the "Beauty and the Beast" origins in the end and maybe even the Tam Lin story in a way though that might be wishful thinking on my part.
If you don't want anything more complicated than lust and sacrifice in the name of it from your characters love stories, I highly recommend this book.
