In case I didn't make the point in a previous review, Sam Shepherd would have become an ex- police officer partway through the first of Vanda Symon's books. The "renegade officer" trope is worn to death, and the only reason I started book three is because time had faded my frustrations with books one and two. The one aooealing thing about the books is its location in my home town.
