reviewed Oathbringer by Brandon Sanderson (The Stormlight Archive, #3)

Brandon Sanderson: Oathbringer (Paperback, 2019, Tor Fantasy)

In Oathbringer, the third volume of the New York Times bestselling Stormlight Archive, humanity faces …

Horribly long

This took me way too long to read. I started in December 2024 and finished in July 2025. It's way too long. Pacing is horrible. Other books dragged me away. There was nothing that kept me wanting to read, until the last part. The Sanderlanche is there and it was good. I can't bring myself to go higher that 3 stars.

Julie E. Czerneda: To Each This World (Paperback, 2022, DAW)

From an Aurora Award-winning author, a new sci-fi novel follows three intrepid humans caught up …

Been eyeing this book for a while since Julie is a local author, but I have yet to read any of her works and I have shelves upon shelves of unread books and hesitated to add yet another book to them. With the Cielcin united under one banner, the Sollan Empire stands …

J. R. R. Tolkien: The Fellowship of the Ring (Paperback, 1976, Ballantine Books)

The first part of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Tolkien’s classic epic of Good …

This is only the second time I read this series, including The Hobbit, which I read over the holidays. For some reason, I seem to gravitate to classic fantasy or science fiction during the holidays. I first read this back in 2003 when I was in college. At that time, the 3rd movie was about to come out and I wanted to read the books before watching the movies. The trailers had hooked me.

So, I started reading my first fantasy series with The Hobbit. It was my first fantasy novel if you don’t count any of Stephen King’s stuff. So reading The Fellowship of the Ring back then felt like a huge and difficult novel. I was not used to so many strange names and places and found it a bit hard to read. Then, I watched the first movie. And then I read The Two Towers and watched …
