Loena reviewed Are Prisons Obsolete? by Angela Y. Davis

I am highly impressed by this woman's ability to think holistically, write beautifully, and devote her heart and soul to social justice fights. This book explores the entangled webs of crime and punishment realities, at times daunting, at times hopeful, at times heartwarming - just like life itself.
"What, then, would it mean to imagine a system in which punishment is not allowed to become the source of corporate profit? How can we imagine a society in which race and class are not primary determinants of punishment? Or one in which punishment itself is no longer the central concern of the making of justice?"
