As I get older, I realise that I must revisit things that, in the folly of my youth, I may not have fully appreciated. On the list: publicly-owned railways, spiced rum, and early detective fiction. I’ve developed an appreciation for the police procedural, so I gave this another go. Whilst it didn’t blow me away - I’m still me - I do see why this did so well. Christie’s writing is deeply engaging and the Poirot is more likeable than I recall from previous reading.
