I picked this up thinking it would be pulp fiction - and I am deeply happy I was wrong. Combining coming-out tale, criticism of the performative machismo of modern man, and friends are the family we choose narrative, this fantasy tale weaves some deep themes into a story in which we aren’t always meant to like the narrator and - clearly - need to keep our eyes on those around us at all times. I power read it in a day.
