After reading Cryptonomicon--which I loved--I was a bit disappointed with this book. It couldn't seem to decide whether to be plot driven or a historical romance, and so it ended up kind of just being boring. I could never really get into the characters, and the moments when I did, suddenly the story would abandon them.
