Tom Perrotta: The abstinence teacher (2007, Random House Canada) 4 stars

Review of 'The abstinence teacher' on 'Goodreads'

4 stars

Perrotta has that ability to combine conciseness, tragedy, and comedy all together in his insightful narratives of suburban American life. He clearly can empathize with his subjects, even as he holds them up to critical scrutiny, and it is this warmth of humanity that you are left with when you close the book. Very similar style to [book:Little Children], and similarly masterful in its simplicity but vividness of language, I'm excited to see how Perrotta will develop his style and subject matter in the future.
